May 14 Great Falls, VA

On Friday, May 14th, 2021, In Great Falls National Park, VA,  Join The American Alpine Club’s DC Section Education Chair, Sean Taft-Morales, and Hans Florine,  as they share all the mistakes and lessons they’ve learned on single and multi-pitch climbing. Friday Agenda:

Introductions and expectations.

  • Go over the gear you will need.
  • Go over gear will be using, show usage for various situations, and practice it.
  • Show a variety of anchor-building situations and practice them.
  • Show a variety of transitions at anchors and practice them.
  • Show a variety of common rescue scenarios and practice them.
  • Spend time on specific questions or advanced niche climbing scenarios as time allows.

Between the two of them, they have over 75 years of mistakes that you can avoid.

  • Take a small group of 2 to 4 up a multi-pitch route and focus on: anchor placement, transitions, rope handling, mid-pitch belay considerations, and top belaying methods.
  • Show a variety of common rescue scenarios and practice them.
  • Spend time on specific questions or advanced niche climbing scenarios as time allows.
